  Silverback Cipher

Silverback hunters should be familiar with the “pigpen” or masonic cipher, which is a simple substitution cipher exchanging letters for symbols based on a grid.

This cipher can be used to decrypt directions and secret codewords at FBZ geocaches!

Little Green Men
FBZ A.P.E. 56 - GC1QP31

There are reports out of Mt. Laguna, CA of an unusual find on the grounds of a former Air Force Station based at the top of Stephenson Peak on the outskirts of the Cleveland National Forest. The disclosure details an unexpected discovery of high value intelligence relevant to Operation Silverback inside R-27 at the now abandoned military complex . SGTF believes information garnered from this discovery will affirm beyond all reasonable doubts our assertion that extraterrestrials are in the final stages of preparation for their imminent attack on mankind using savage primate combatants.

WARNING! Use caution when accessing this zone of discovery! Toxic material (i.e. asbestos) is present around this abandoned facility. Increased exposure can be hazardous to your health!

Read the mission brief below...

SUBJECT: FBZ A.P.E. 56 Brief [Missions #6]

TO: Silverback Operatives

Reputedly, Mt. Laguna Air Force Station (AFS) was established during the early years of the Cold War as a radar outpost (751st Radar Sqdn.) commissioned to warn the United States of a pending aerial attack by Soviet bombers. DEW logoAs this need quickly evaporated with the advancement of intercontinental ballistic missiles, the facility was redesigned, adapted and retrofitted with AN/FPS-6 and 6B height-finder parabolic dishes to serve as part of the DEW (Distant Early Warning) program to alert the U.S. military of incoming long-range nuclear weapon strikes against our country.

However, common sense coupled with just a little bit of research will tell you that the DEW project was defined by a line of radar facilities strewn across the Northern Coast of Alaska and Canada, NOT Southern California. In fact, there is little evidence to support the notion that the Mt. Laguna AFS is (or ever was) part of the DEW project. No, this facility was used for something else, and SGTF believes we’ve uncovered its true purpose based on fascinating evidence we've uncovered here.

In all, there are seven (7) FBZ locations (i.e. missions) to Operation Silverback. Six FBZs contain “intelligence” report(s) and a corresponding secret codeword. Enter the six (6) codewords collectively at fbz.geocaches.org to discover the seventh and final FBZ location. Keep in mind codewords can be gathered in any order so you DO NOT need to visit FBZs sequentially!

The seventh and final FBZ TSG location is where the “truth” related to Operation Silverback shall be revealed!

Mission 6 Report

FBZ A.P.E. 56 contains a large ammo can with Special Reconnaissance (SR) related to SGTF's Operation Silverback in the form of Planet of the Apes Memorabilia (POTAM) and scouted intelligence reports. As a clandestine special tactics unit, SGTF has been known to leave POTAM tracking bugs in their FBZs with special mission instructions related to active Project A.P.E. caches (e.g. Project A.P.E. Mission 9: Tunnel of Light).

FBZs are reserved for POTAM related to SGTF's Silverback operations. Visitors are encouraged to register their visit and leave ONLY items containing relevance to The Planet of the Apes or items that are traditional hitchhikers (e.g. geocoins, travel bugs, etc.). Only place and/or remove TRACKABLE items from this cache (read NO unrelated SWAG); Any POTAM found in this cache designated as NOT TRACKABLE is pertinent to operations for this FBZ and should REMAIN ASSIGNED TO THE CACHE. POTAM labeled PROVISIONAL FTF is considered remittance as reward for the FTF (First to Find) and can be removed freely without restriction or stipulation.
